I heard a story on WBUR today about Wal-Mart's efforts to buy local produce; they'll offer to buy staple foods from any farm that can promise to deliver the produce with-in a day of harvesting. Now, I don't like Wal-Mart, but if this is the truth, it's definately a step in the right direction.
I can't decide if the fact that I'm happy about this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Now, I'm not planning on shopping at Wal-Mart immediately, but check this out. Apparently, in general, the produce at Wal-Mart is just as good as Whole Foods. I don't shop at Whole Foods either, BUT if we always blame the big names for driving down prices and cheating producers out of their profits, is Whole Foods or Trader Joes really any different from Wal-Mart?
My gears are turning; just some food for thought.
